What is Acid reflux?

In your stomach, there is a valve known as the lower esophageal sphincter (LES), which is a ring of muscle. An LES normally closes as soon as food passes through it. The acid produced by your stomach can enter your esophagus if the LES does not close completely or if it opens too often. Heartburn is a symptom of acid entering your esophagus. GERD, also known as acid reflux disease, may occur more than twice a week.

In Ayurveda, acid reflux is called amla-Pitta. The word amla stands for acidity. Ayurveda says that the Pitta dosha accumulates too much acidity through consumption of excessively oily, spicy, or sour food or Pitta aggravating lifestyle. This excessive acidity causes amla-Pitta or acid reflux

Why Ayurveda is a better option for Acid reflux treatment?

According to modern medicine, acid reflux is a common, chronic (long-term) condition without a permanent cure.

Prokinetics, foaming agents, H2 blockers, and proton pump inhibitors are some of the drugs recommended to treat acid reflux.

However, most of these drugs are meant to suppress the acid secretion in the stomach.

These medicines can help you to prevent symptoms like acidity. But in the long term, they disturb the overall digestive process by suppressing the natural acid secretion in the stomach.

Besides, the final option for acid reflux is surgery.
